Forum: GratefulDead Subject: the lost shows zone

Of course, I have enough shows already to keep me busy for the next 3 lifetimes. So, I'm not complaining mind you.
But where the Fxxx are these shows????!!!!

1968 - the summer, and well, hell, most of the godamm year is missing. How is it we can have such pristine sounding shows - like the Oct 68 shows (and they DO really sound clean) but for most of the year, the guy at the soundboard was too wasted to plug in the plugs?? Or what? Was it always Bear, or other people?

1969 - well actually, we do have most of 1969 circulating. And that's good. But, as much as I love 69 shows - how many times can you listen to
Dark Star>St.Stephen>Eleven>Lovelight yet again??
I say, put some of the 1969 shows BACK in the vault, and let us have a few more 1968 shows in trade. Fair??

1979 - the first two months of the year, and the last two months of Keith and Donna. Were these shows THAT bad??
Maybe they were!! Snort, snort.

1980 - May and June 1980. What happened?? Did somebody forget to buy tapes? Also, much of the Warfield run and the Radio City Music Hall run never circulates.
Oh, well. Maybe we're not missing that much. Some of the electric sets from the Fall 1980 run are lackluster in the opinions of many fans, including myself. Still, I know there are a few great unheard gems in this run.

1983 - the summer shows are mostly - where?? The ones we have are great, but c'mon. Let's have more crispy SBD's from June 1983. Please??

1976 - oh, let's not forget 1976. The early June shows are legendary. So, where's the late June run at the Capitol Theatre and Chicago?? Those setlists are so tempting!!

Note - while I was writing this, I just noticed that a new uncirculated (not on LAMA anyway) SBD has appeared at Gosh Darn Fillets. 5/16/80 !!!! Thanks Santa. Maybe I should complain more often, LOL.

A brand new seed for 5-16-80 was just put up a week ago that is complete. It's listed as shnid:89473 and is a compilation of 3 different sources. Part of the 1980 project at LLegs. I haven't given it a listen yet but I'll be loading it up shortly.

hi dr.,

spend some time with 11/28, 11/29, and 11/30 of 1980. 9/2 through 9/6 is great music as well.

I agree though - the acoustic/electric split shows did not produce the best music of the year.

That's an interesting point about the 1980 Warfield/Radio City electric sets. It's usually impossible to get Deadheads to agree on anything- years, shows, versions, etc- but I don't think I've ever heard anyone express an opinion that the electric sets from these shows were anything other than "uninspired", "mediocre", "lackluster", etc. Seemed like each night from these runs followed the pattern of a gorgeous, if repetitive, acoustic set followed by 2 electric sets that were more or less mailed in.

My preference remains for the 68/69 shows. Trusting Dr. Flashback's immaculate awareness of where the gems are hidden, could he recommend a Cryptial Envelopment -> The Other One -> Cryptical Envelopment?

According to the keepers of the vault most of those Warfield '80 sbds were taped over after Dead Set and Reckoning were put together.
